This beauty brand inspired by the Ancient Egyptians will change your makeup routine

We feel like it’s safe to say that most girls are the same - when you find a makeup product you love, you just stick with it. This especially applies to beauty products such as eyeliners, mascaras and eyebrow pomade, often because it is so hard to find the ultimate one. Well, let us introduce you to Eye of Horus.

If you haven’t heard of the range before then we’d recommend that you keep reading. Started right here at home - in Byron Bay to be specific - Eye of Horus is the brainchild of owner Holly Schleich, who has a background in naturopathy and has previously worked in skincare development. Work in those fields has led to her interest in ancient herbal lore and the power of oils and botanicals, both of which she has incorporated in Eye of Horus.

Named after an Ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, the brand's beauty ethos is also based on Ancient Egyptian beauty. The cruelty-free ingredient list includes ingredients such as organic Moringa oil, which was considered the oil of the Pharaoh, and was very popular with the Egyptians for their beautifying and regenerating power. The whole range is also paraben-free, so that’s another massive tick from us.

With its cult status in the beauty world, we thought we'd recommend the must-haves from this award-winning brand so you can discover how great it is for yourself.

Goddess Pencil

While the days of fully lined eyes are gone - unless it’s for a dramatic smokey look then we’re all about it - we couldn’t really go past the Goddess Pencil when it came to rounding up Eye of Horus’ must have products. Arguably the most heavily influenced by the Ancient Egyptian ethos, these pencils which are formulated using the same beautiful wax and oils that are found in the mascara meaning that it’s perfect for sensitive eyes again - and you know how irritating eyeliner on a waterline can be! Plus it’s smudge proof and long lasting so you won’t have to worry about looking like a panda.

Tip: if you’re looking for a softer liner using the black kohl or want to create a subtle wash of colour using the beautiful range - we’re loving teals, greens and purples at the moment - apply roughly above the lash line and use a good blending brush to smoke it out in the shape of a cat eye.

We’re giving away a Goddess Eye Pencil in Jewel Amethyst or Emerald Tabula with every Oz Hair & Beauty order over $89.99 this week. While stock lasts.

Goddess Mascara - Black

Award winning for good reason, this mascara is the holy grail of lash products. It only uses plant-based ingredients, which means that it’s perfect for those who suffer from sensitive eyes. Seriously, read the online reviews and you’ll see. The mix of organic Moringa oil, beeswax and rice bran wax, among other good ingredients means that it strengthens and lengthens your lashes. Plus the flexible silicon hourglass brush will ensure that your lashes are covered from root to tip, creating the perfect curl and great volume. It's so good that you'll probably find that the Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara is all you’ll need to get yourself looking bright eyed.

Liquid Define - Black

What goes hand in hand with a good mascara? The perfect eyeliner, of course. Whether you’re a cat eye veteran or a novice in the eyeliner area, the Liquid Define has been designed for ease of use, first and foremost. Featuring a precision tip, that line is guaranteed to be smooth and easy to control., making it simple to achieve that iconic eye flick. Plus, it’s smudge proof and dries instantly so it won’t imprint on your eye if you accidentally blink too quickly.

Tip: this applies for all eyeliners but if you do make a mistake, simply get a cotton bud, dip in micellar water and firmly place the tip to the fault and twist to remove. Works like a charm.

Brow Define

How can we emphasise the importance of brows? It will completely change a makeup look if you simply fill in your brows and sometimes, it’s all you need. We’re currently big advocates of the natural brow. It doesn’t mean that you can’t fill them in a bit more with some eyebrow pomade but a product like the Brow Define has been designed so you can create soft hairlike strokes and fill in as desired. His cruelty-free formula includes organic castor oil The slimline pointed tip is also great for creating the perfect arches. And remember, brows are sisters, not twins. So don’t stress too much in getting them even.

Tip: Always use the spooley brush to brush your brows upwards and outwards before you start filling them in. Fill in as desired then brush again to comb the colour through and smudge out any obvious strokes. If you do prefer the filled in look, use your eyebrow pomade to fill in sparse areas.
