The top 4 products to stop your blonde hair from going brassy

Sunny days at the beach, warm nights out with friends and endless cocktails – summer has a lot going for it. One thing that’s not so great? The havoc the sun can wreak on your hair – especially if it’s dyed.

You’ve probably been trying to keep your hair safe from the cold winter hair, which can also cause brassiness in blondes. But we’re sad to report that the sun, sea and sand of the upcoming warmer weather are not your friends either. As much as we all love a little sea salt and windswept waves, these elements can quickly turn your beautiful golden hair a nasty yellow.

Many of us go blonder or lighter when the temperature heats up, and with great hair comes greater responsibility. Yes, as long-time blondes will already know – you might have more fun, but it also takes a fair bit of work to keep that perfect blonde tone in shape.

Fortunately, there are now plenty of at-home products and treatments to help keep you minimise that colour loss or at least keep it at bay.

Here are the four products you need to stop your blonde hair from going brassy.

A high-quality blonde shampoo and conditioner

A cheap shampoo might be friendly for your wallet, but it doesn’t do any favours for your hair – and can quickly turn it brassy. Instead, go for one that’s formulated specifically for blonde hair as it will hydrate, nourish and be gentler on your hair meaning it won’t strip it of its hard-earned colour.

Our recommendation is the sulfate-free Pravana The Perfect Blonde Shampoo, which will lighten and brighten your blonde hair by neutralising unwanted yellow tones. Make sure to finish it off with the matching counterpart, Pravana The Perfect Blonde Conditioner, to strengthen, add shine and moisturise your hair with its added keratin, wheat and silk amino acids.

A violet shampoo

One of the best weapons against brassiness in blondes is a violet shampoo. As opposites on the colour wheel, it’s the best shade to counteract oxidised yellow. Use the iconic Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Shampoo, two to three times a week as an alternative to your blonde shampoo from the previous step. Simply massage into wet hair, leave for three to five minutes, then rinse.

Being outside in the wind and sun can also damage your blonde locks. If wearing a hat isn’t on the top of your list, try Nak Scalp To Hair Thermal Protector to give your hair some UV protection, which can also change the colour of your hair. Spray it on clean hair before brushing or use on dry hair as an instant refresh. It also protects your hair from the high temperatures of heat styling – so make sure you’re spraying your hair before straightening, curling or blow drying too.

Hair treatment

The final step and one of the best ways to keep your blonde hair looking bright and healthy are regular hair treatments. Use a rich hair mask at least once a week to keep it happy, shiny and strong. The Keratin Complex Blondeshell Masque will de-brass, brighten and hydrate hair thanks to its special blend of hydrolyzed keratin with shea and macadamia seed butter.
