The Haircare Range Serial Colourers Need

For those of you reading this who identify as a serial colourers read on, because I’m about to introduce you to a new haircare range you need to nourish your hair, life and soul. First things first what is a serial colourer? The Dictionary of Oz Hair and Beauty defines a serial colourer as an individual who loves experimenting with hair colour whether it be blonde, orange, pink, blue, black and so on. If you feel personally attacked by this title...don’t be! For so many of us our hair is a huge part of our identify, of who we are and how we want the world to see us.

Introducing the Kérastase Chroma Absolu range an innovative system that quickly and effectively tackles colour-induced damage, colour fade and colour texture including frizz, dullness and a roughness. How you might ask? Well after years of research the foundation of Chroma Absolu was born - a trilogy of acids; Tartaric, Amino and Lactic. This technology works to rebuild the strands, shield against environmental aggressors, whilst boosting shine and reducing frizz.

Let's Break Down the Ingredients

Amino Acid - Penetrates down to the cortex to rebuild the hair from the inside out. Amino acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins and are the building blocks of everything from healthy hair to skin. Hair is made from keratin and amino acids, so funnelling them deep down into sensitised or damaged hair helps to strengthen your strands.

Tartaric Acid - A lesser-known Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) - yes, from the same family of ingredients you lean on to exfoliate your skin - is also a powerful antioxidant. Tartaric acid reduces oxidative stress and shields against external damage.

Lactic Acid - Another AHA, lactic acid is used in skincare to exfoliate and hydrate. In Chroma Absolu, it also gently exfoliates the hair, whilst sealing the surface to reduce frizz and amplify shine. Lactic acid works to increase the permeability of your strands, letting moisture in before sealing them closed, which is why it’s used at an optimal 0.7% concentrate in our hero product from the range, the Soin Acide Chroma Gloss.

WOW, If that wasn’t the quickest science lesson in hairology, I don’t know what was. It sounds like a lot of our much-loved skincare ingredients can be found in the products from the Chroma Absolu range and if it’s backed by years of research you can bet I’m going to take their word for it.

Meet the Chroma Absolu Range

Step 1

To care for colour treated hair, you can choose between two shampoos, Bain Chroma Respect for fine to medium hair and Bain Riche Chroma Respect for medium to thick hair. I’m lucky enough to be a medium girl so can choose between the two. You simply use this one like any other shampoo and by that I mean shampoo twice! Because why just shampoo once when you can do it two times? The second lather will produce a more abundant foam which will help cleanse lengths all the way to the ends. Lastly, make sure to rinse well!

Step 2

To follow, there is the Fondant Cica Chroma, an anti-porosity strengthening conditioner. With this one you are supposed to leave it on for 2-3 minutes, so I use this time to wash and shave my body. Unlike the standard pea sized amount we’re used to seeing associated with haircare, Kérastase specifically points out to use a hazelnut-sized amount. My hair felt so soft after washing this out without heaviness that is often associated with other conditioners.

Step 3

For once-weekly extra care, or if you just need 5 minutes of me time then you need the Masque Chroma Filler. And it’s not the filler you’re thinking of. Apply a hazelnut sized amount on washed and towel-dried hair. Massage onto lengths and ends. Leave-in for 5 minutes. Add water, emulsify, rinse thoroughly and voila! Your hair will be left feeling nourished, stronger and you can expect increased shine too.

Step 4

The star of the Chroma Absolu show is the shine-boosting treatment Soin Acide Chroma Gloss. And it honestly blew my mind. I have never used a treatment like this before with a liquid consistency that transforms into a white cream when it comes into contact with water. I don’t know what I liked better the nostalgic feeling that I felt I was box dyeing my hair (sorry 2008 hair) or the amazing softness and shininess that lasted for days after I applied this liquid gold. Would give this one a touch down!

Step 5

Lastly, it wouldn't be worth all the time and money it takes to colour our hair if we’re not going to protect it. Heat and UV damage are serious colour enemies that can lead to unwanted fading, which is why Sérum Chroma Thermique has come to the rescue to shield and protect against multiple external aggressors: UV induced damage, humidity, heat and oxidative stress, the list goes on. This product offers intense protection whilst keeping frizz at bay which is a win-win!

The Chroma Absolu collection is by far my new favourite haircare regime, especially the Soin Acide Chroma Gloss. If you’re a coloured hair queen you need to give this range a try, you won’t be disappointed. Shop this range and more at Oz Hair and Beauty today.
